Oskar Kokoschka was an Austrian painter born in Pöchlarn on March 1st in 1886.

He died Febuary 22nd 1980 in Villeneuve close to Montreux in Switzerland.

He studied at the "Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule" classes of A. von Kenner, C.O. Czeschka and B. Löffler.

Oskar Kokoschka was a wild and brutal person. In 1912 he met Alma Mahler and they lived an "amour fou". In 1915 Alma got pregnant but did not keep the baby. This broke Oskar and Alma's marriage with Walter Gropius later on, even more. Oskar ordered a puppet sculpture of Alma at a doll manufactory in Munich. The real sized doll he beheaded during an obsessive party.

Oskar Kokoschka is an important part of the "Expressionismus". During his time in Dresden colors are very strong, those become quieter in his City View Paintings during his travels. Those city view paintings are unique through the combination of strong close up combined with a far away view - "Weltlandschaften".

Besides painting OK also wrote drama.

1909 "Mörder, Hoffnung der Frauen"

1911 "Der brennende Dornbusch"

1915 "Orpheus und Eurydike"
