Egon Leo Adolf Ludwig Schiele was born on June 12 1890 in Tulln an der Donau.

He died on October 31 1918.

Schiele was next to Oskar Kokoschka and Gustav Klimt one of the most important figures of the "Wiener Moderne" and an Expressionist.

Egon Schiele went to elementary school in Tulln, then to highschool in Krems and later in Klosterneuburg. His art teachers recognized his outstanding talent already at this point and encouraged him to apply for the "Akademie der bildenden Künste" - the academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Where Schiele started his studies in 1906, aged only 16, in the class of Christian Griepenkerl. After only two years though he left the university and founded his own group "Neukunstgruppe".

In 1907 Egon met Gustav Klimt for the first time and moved into his studio at Kurzbauergasse 6 in the 2nd disctrict of Vienna - Leopoldstadt.

1908 Schiele was part of a group exhibition at Stift Klosterneuburg, showing his work in public for the first time.

His aquaintance with Max Oppenheimer made Schiele leave the Jugenstil behind more and more and move to the expressionistic stlye.

1911 Schiele leaves Vienna to settle in Krumau - where his mother was born - with Wally Neuzil, model and lover, and because they were not married, rumors in Krumau made them leave to Neulengbach. There he got accused of having sexually harassed minors and went to prison for 24 days.

1912 Egon Schiele came back to Vienna. In November he moved into his new studio at Hietzinger Hauptstrasse - in the 13th disctrict of Vienna - that he will keep until his death.

1914 the weekly magazine "Die Fackel" published poems by Schiele

On June 17 1915 Egon marries his long time friend Edith Harms.

1916 the Berlin based magazine "Die Aktion" releases a special Edition with his literary and theoretical text pieces.

When Gustav Klimt died on Febuary 6 1918, Schiele's career rose again and he had a big solo show at Secession.
